St. Stephen Parish here welcomed Bishop Laszlo Bocskei of the Diocese of Oradea Mare in Romania. To mark Bishop Bocskei’s visit, Bishop Serratelli concelebrated Mass with him Monday, Sept. 28. St. Stephen’s, founded in 1903, serves the Hungarian community and is the only such parish on the East Coast.

Bishop Serratelli made a pastoral visit to St. Jude Parish here Oct. 3 where he celebrated the Vigil Mass for the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Many young parishioners attended the Mass because every First Saturday of the month’s Vigil Mass is the “teen Mass” at St. Jude’s.

For almost a decade, the Sisters of Christian Charity here have been involved with a special and unique ministry not usually found in religious orders. They have opened up their Motherhouse to serve as a host family for a child in need. The children — suffering from illnesses or bodily disfigurements — receive care by volunteer doctors of Healing the Children, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing free medical care to needy children.

Bishop Serratelli celebrated Mass at St. Michael the Archangel Church Sept. 27 to mark the feast day of the parish’s patron, which is celebrated Sept. 29. Priests from around the diocese and beyond concelebrated the Mass that honored one of the three archangels. St. Michael is known as the guardian of the Catholic Church and he is commonly associated with being the patron of police officers and those in the military.

For several months, parishioners at St. Mary Help of Christians Church here had been coming together for the celebration of Mass at the church’s nearby parish center as the church underwent major painting to its interior. Through the generous donations of parishioners, the 165-year-old church was painted following roof repairs. A leaky roof on the tower side of the building had caused water damage inside.
