Religious Education - Safe Environment

All children enrolled in religious education programs in the Diocese of Paterson receive an age-appropriate lesson to protect themselves from abusers.

Within our Diocese Religious Education Programs children receive lessons in grades one and grade four. Lesson One is given to all first-graders and Lesson Two is given to all fourth-graders, with age-appropriate material from Virtus Empowering God's Children. Click on the link to view the program.

• The parishes communicate about the lessons with all 1^st- and 4th-grade parents. This is done with onsite meeting/training of the parents or documentation sent to their home.

• Parents may request that their child(ren) not participate in the Teaching Touching Safety training by using the parish "opt out" form which can be obtained through your parish religious education/faith formation offices.
